Step away from the trough
British politics not Scottish independence has become the way the people we vote for earn their living. It’s time they step away from the trough. First they ask us to donate money to fund their election campaigns and tell us that a vote for them is a vote for independence. So what can we do but give them our money and vote for them? If they get in they receive either an MSPs Salary or an MPs salary depending on the election. That’s their basic pay, add on top of that payments for being on committees. They get an expense account and we’ve all seen what British politicians charge to it duck ponds, heated stables… The list goes on and on.
Separate from their political salary and expenses there are TV appearances. People get money to be on TV and Radio. If a politician writes a news article then that too is work for money. Companies and organisations will pay politicians to appear at functions, events, opening ceremonies of offices, tourist attractions and so on. After dinner speaking is a cash cow for politicians.
Some independence politicians even have their own TV shows with sponsors and advertisers to pay for “production costs”. Though frankly a camera and hiring a posh house to sit in doesn’t usually cost that much. Then there are donations, recently we found out the Prime Minister and his wife don’t pay for their own clothes so imagine what a donor seeking to stop an independence politician might pay for to influence them with “free gifts”?… Sorry I meant no obligation donations. It’s time to stop all this shit. If you want to be a political star of the Scottish independence movement then drop the receipts and step away from the expenses form. Scotland needs actual independence supporters, hungry for the power and yes money that being in an independent government will give them and if that’s not you then quit or it’s time to step away from the trough.
